Facebook dominates mobile internet

A NEW survey has revealed that Facebook dominates mobile internet traffic, accounting for almost half of all the time people in the UK spend surfing on mobile devices.

The study, conducted by the GSMA, the industry association for mobile phone operators, showed that in December approximately 16m people in the UK accessed the internet via mobile phone.

The actual numbers of mobile internet users is probably even higher, as the survey data didn’t include data T-Mobile and 3.

Facebook was the most popular site by some distance, with almost 5m unique visitors, compared to 4.57m for Google pages.

The figures were from the GSMA’s newly launched Mobile Media Metrics service, which is aimed at helping brands and agencies plan and measure campaigns on mobile phones more accurately.

Mobile marketing has been growing swiftly - last year in the US $320m was spent on mobile ads, an 80 per cent increase from 2008.
