Verizon may phase out White PagesVERIZON, the US-based communications giant announced last week that they are considering the suspension of deliveries of White Pages phone books to millions of residents in New York. The company claimed in a letter to the New York Public Service Commission that it will save 4,875 tons of paper a year. On that basis, the company has sought permission to discontinue placing the books on people's doorsteps, as currently, the state requires the company to produce and distribute the White Pages. Verizon has pointed out that most people use the internet or call directory assistance to find phone numbers and addresses, rather than White Pages – and even these methods are expected to decline in favour of mobile internet use. A recent US poll found that only 11 per cent of people actually use phone books. Leave your comments: |
