Major search engines in talks with Foursquare

DENNIS Crowley, the co-founder of location-based social media site Foursquare, has said that the business is talking to major players in online and mobile search.

The businesses thought to include giants such as Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, according to reports in today’s Daily Telegraph. Microsoft has already done business with Foursquare, with tips from users of Foursquare appearing on Bing maps.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Crowley said:

“Our data generates hugely interesting trends which would enrich search. We can anonymise data and use it to show venues which are trending at that moment. Twitter helped the world and the search engines know what people are talking about. Foursquare would allow people to search for the types of place people are going to – and where is trending – not what.”
