Agencies set to fight it out over BBC's mobile marketing

THE BBC has informed UK agencies that it is looking for a partner to help with the provision of mobile marketing, mobile applications, sites and location based services.

Last month, the BBC Trust gave the go-ahead for the launch of smartphone applications for BBC News, BBC Sport and BBC iPlayer, amidst concern from commercial competitors that the market for news apps will be skewed by the BBC’s entry.

newspapers including The Independent, The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian already offer free and paid-for apps.

The BBC is also currently looking for an agency to handle its social media strategy.
