MagnetU pulls people together in a mobile world

Hazel Rycroft

MAGNETU has today announced the launch of what it describes as the world's first "Wearable Mobile Social Network". Giving people the power to make new connections, with other people nearby that they may like, no matter if they are outside or indoors.

MagnetU incorporates short-range wireless technologies, which allows devices to connect to each other, creating connections between matched people.

The device, which looks like a photo storage card, is updated via your
computer to create a personal profile, which is then paired to your Bluetooth phone. MagnetU uses this information to allow the card to link you with potential matches within your location.

When the card detects a match you will receive a message on your mobile saying, "HOT" or "ATTRACTIVE". This message will also include details of your matched party; the matched party will similarly receive a message containing your details.

If it all gets too much for you, you can simply turn off your MagnetU
device.

It is not based on a location-based server platform or GPS so neither the cellular operator or MagnetU can track users' locations. MagnetU works with all cellular operators and supports Nokia and Sony Ericsson Bluetooth mobile phones produced from 2003.
