Twitter growth in US

TWITTER has become as well known as Facebook in the US.

87 per cent of Americans know what Twitter is, compared with 5 per cent two years ago, giving it almost the same visibility as Facebook, with 88 per cent awareness.  However they have not gained the same penetration levels as Facebook yet. Just 7 per cent of Americans on Twitter compared with the 41 per cent that are on Facebook.

But the Americans that are on Twitter are young and affluent. In encouraging findings for advertisers, 44 per cent of Americans on Twitter are aged 18 to 34, while 24 per cent live in homes with annual income above $75,000. 

Good news for Twitter who have been looking for ways to make money out of the site.
