TomTom XL LIVE - a move towards convergence?

TOMTOM, the provider of navigation solutions and digital maps, has today launched its TomTom XL LIVE service, which points towards further convergence between traditional navigation devices and information services.

TomTom XL LIVE will bring LIVE Services, previously only available on the premium TomTom GO series, to the market with both a regional version and a European version.

A company statement said that users of the new TomTom XL LIVE will get detailed and up-to-date traffic information and the best routing information delivered directly to their cars. However, of most interest to observers of information services is the fact that it also features TomTom Fuel Prices, Online Local Search with Google and IQ Routes.

The TomTom XL LIVE has plug and play connectivity built in and comes with a number of motoring oriented information services. It features TomTom High Definition Traffic for the most detailed and up-to-date real-time traffic information en route, now available for the first time abroad across Germany, UK, France and Switzerland and the Netherlands.

It also includes TomTom Safety Alerts, including real-time safety camera reporting and sharing, so that users can keep each other informed about mobile safety cameras. The European version of TomTom XL LIVE series includes the maps of 42 European countries
