Three to join the data cappers

THE era of unlimited data usage on smart phone plans appears to ending as Three has joined O2, Orange and Vodafone by announcing limits.

Three’s 1GB monthly cap, announced yesterday, comes just as Apple launches it's latest incarnation of the iPhone. New iPhone 4 customers will be signing contracts setting caps on the amount of data they can download.

The move comes with smartphones putting increasing pressure on networks and will make life more expensive for heavy data users.

There had been speculation that some providers, Three among them, would avoid data capping to gain sales, but it’s thought that attracting users who churn through data could significantly impact upon network capacity.
