GyPSii on-deck for Apple iPhone launch in ChinaGYPSII, the location based social networking application, has announced its partnership with China Unicom to launch the a consumer-focused 3G mobile lifestyle service. The service, Unispace powered by GyPSii, for iPhone customers is to be offered via Shanghai Unicom and will seek to address the Chinese mobile phone market – which with approximately 687 million subscribers nationwide is currently the largest untapped market for the iPhone. When compared to the 270 million subscribers in the U.S., entry into the Chinese market could signal significant adoption rates. “The proliferation of mobile technologies in the Chinese market is stunning,” said Dan Harple, Executive Chairman of GyPSii. “People use GyPSii as part of their lifestyle: as a real-time vehicle to share their experiences, where they are, who they are, and what they’re doing. The technology invokes a new form of conversation that is innately mobile and based around where people are and what they are doing in real-time. After GyPSii and Unicom’s successful cooperation together during the Beijing Olympics, we are delighted to deepen this important relationship with Unispace and open GyPSii to Unicom’s millions of subscribers. We appreciate Unicom’s vision in working with us for this game-changing launch.” The Chinese market is set to be a land grab, as the future of connectivity in China is mobile not traditional computer – there are 687 million mobile subscribers nationwide, over 338 million internet users, and currently, 155 million access internet via mobile phone already in 2009.
