Local search is set to become increasingly important in mobile marketing, according to Google.

Mobile advertising director at Google, Diana Pouliot told the recent Las Vegas Mobile Marketing and Advertising event that one-third of all mobile Google searches relate to the user's local environment.

According to Mobile Marketing Watch, Google is looking to capitalise on this by changing its mobile ad formats to become more attuned to the rise of local search.

"We think of location as a hugely important signal," said Paul Feng, mobile advertising group product manager at Google.
