1-800-FREE launches mobile search app

Hazel Rycroft

1-800-FREE has launched a new mobile application in the USA, available for both Android and i-phone; the app for the Blackberry will be available next month.

1-800-FREE is a directory enquiries service, which offer callers: any   business, residential, government or toll-free phone listing for free.   It is estimated that the service has saved Americans one billion   dollars to date.

The service covers its expenses by allowing advertisers to pitch to the customer whilst 1-800-FREE are retrieving the required number. The service then gives you the option of calling the number you asked for, or the advertiser's number.

The new application comes preset with nine popular search categories such as taxi, gas, grocery and pizza. Once the user has selected a category, GPS technology will find the nearest appropriate businesses, or enter a city/zip code and easily search by business name. Once the number is found, "FREE411 Search" offers options to call, get directions and add the number to a contact list.

"1-800-FREE411 gets more than 15 million calls per month," said John Roswech, president of Jingle Networks, the parent company of 1-800-FREE411. "Since more Americans are buying smart-phones, it made sense to make our popular service available for multiple mobile platforms and it's already proving to be a big hit. Unlike other search apps, FREE411 allows the user to save a phone number in their address book for future use."
