KGB Global to form joint venture with Majestic Auto

KGB Global, the US directory assistance business behind The Number and its eponymous 118 118 brand, has formed a joint venture with Majestic Auto, the Indian moped manufacturer, to provide a range of information services.

Founded in 1992, KGB Global is a privately held, New York-based company and the world’s largest independent provider of directory assistance and enhanced information services. During its seventeen-year history, KGB has built some of the most successful and recognisable retail brands in the telecommunications and enhanced information services sector in Europe, including ‘The Number 118 118’ in the United Kingdom and ‘Le Numero 118 218’ in France, both of which have the largest market share in their respective markets. KGB is also the biggest and fastest-growing independent wholesale directory assistance service provider in the U.S. In 2009, KGB launched ‘542542 (KGBKGB)’, the premier text answer service in the U.S.

However, KGB has been moving beyond traditional directory assistance services, including call completion, movie listings, train schedules, price comparisons, and ‘Ask Us Anything’ service across multiple platforms, including mobile and landline phones, SMS and the Internet. This latest move will see KGB step into the lucrative Indian market and the choice of partner is an interesting one – perhaps suggesting a sat nav and information services hybrid to capitalise on the emerging demand for location based services.

Majestic Auto, is one of the largest producers of mopeds in India, incorporated in 1972, it is one of the largest exporters of mini motorcycles from India and became a household name in the country by 1983. The plant has a capacity of manufacturing 120,000 Mopeds annually.
