WhitePages mobile audience surpasses 2 Million

WhitePages, the US-based online directory service yesterday announced that it has surpassed an audience reach of over two million mobile users through its popular iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and SMS Messaging.

"Our WhitePages Mobile for iPhone application has demonstrated tremendous endurance as a Top 10 free reference iPhone application for over 13 consecutive months," said Kevin Nakao, vice president of mobile. "More importantly, we have seen an increase in repeat user engagement. Every new iPhone update we release has received a higher uptake rate, with our last upgrade getting over 60 per cent of customers who have downloaded our application to update."

A recent report released by Gartner argued that, "the embrace of smartphones -- especially the iPhone - coupled with a rise in flat-rate data plan pricing, signals that a fundamental change is underway in how consumers interact with high-end devices." WhitePages is seeking to capitalise on this change by making mobile phones a more powerful contact and communication device.

The growing adoption and repeat usage of WhitePages mobile applications is based on the ability to make it easy to connect with people and businesses with confidence. With accurate contact information for over 90 percent of U.S. adults, WhitePages website and mobile applications continue to grow in popularity and make outdated white pages paper phone books irrelevant.

Nakao continued, "We can do everything the printed white page does and so much more, giving users access to hundreds of millions of contacts right in their pocket, and providing features like reverse phone search to help you identify unknown callers, which would be almost impossible with the print version."
