Tasmanian government saves DA jobsDAVID Bartlett, the Premier of the Tasmanian provincial Government has today claimed that he played an important role in securing the jobs of 250 workers at the Excelior Call Centre. Mr Bartlett congratulated Excelior for being named as the successful tenderer to operate the Sensis Directory Assistance agreement in Burnie. “This is a fantastic example of what I mean when I say Tasmania is ideally positioned to secure new generation industries and new generation jobs. “This decision not only secures the 250 jobs at the Burnie call centre, but also provides ongoing stimulus for the North West region of Tasmania.” Mr Bartlett said. “Excelior is a very important employer to the region. “Wages from Excelior are in excess of $8 million, an additional $1.25 million is pumped into the North West economy each year as a result of Excelior’s relationship with up to 30 small businesses. “This is an excellent outcome in these tough economic times and the State Government’s involvement confirms our commitment to support sustainable jobs and building a strong Tasmania.” Mr Bartlett said that the government had been in consultation with Excelior senior management for close to 12 months and he was pleased these discussions had resulted in the securing of jobs. “The Tasmanian Government has approved an assistance package recommended by the Tasmanian Development Board of $3.16 million. “A vital component of securing this new business is the requirement for Excelior to undertake a re-skilling program. Established in 1999, Excelior employs more than 2,000 people across 60 sites across Australia and New Zealand. Leave your comments: |
