Facebook gets public on privacyHazel RycroftA NEW website has been launched which begs the question: are you sure you want to put that on Facebook? The site called, www.youropenbook.org, enables people to search for embarrassing status updates. The site works by picking up keywords for people's statuses. They can only see people whose posts are public. All of the content searched by Openbook is already in the public domain, but privacy campaigners hope that presenting the information in a searchable format on a single site will make social network members think about what they post. There have been several instances of people getting into trouble over their facebook, maybe this site will warn people of the consequences. This sort of site however could have implications for marketing, selling things to people after reading their posts. Watch this space! Leave your comments: |
