Online Local Search heavyweight DexKnows.com goes ultra-local with Maponics NeighbourhoodsUsers of the online local search site DexKnows.com can now search by neighbourhood to find local restaurants, drycleaners and other service providers near them. Due to an agreement announced by local search business R.H. Donnelley and Maponics, DexKnows.com now leverages Maponics map data to offer intuitive neighbourhood-level search for all of its 60+ individual city pages. In addition to making it easier to search by neighbourhood (e.g., The Loop in Chicago), DexKnows.com also now allows searches related to a specific problem or need. For example, users can find a local cobbler by typing in "repair shoes" or locate businesses that make house calls to a particular area. “DexKnows.com delivers a unique, local search experience letting users search by precise locations, such as neighbourhoods and landmarks, and by specific needs and service areas,” said Sean Greene, senior vice president of interactive at R.H. Donnelley, which publishes DexKnows.com. “We partnered with Maponics for neighbourhood map data because they provided the solution to deliver the user experience we wanted.” “DexKnows.com’s move from city-wide search results to a local neighbourhood focus has transformed it from a leading online search tool to a pre-eminent local search hub,” said Darrin Clement, CEO of Maponics. “Maponics is proud to have been a part of this enhancement.” “We chose Maponics for our local search because they offer the best neighborhood search solution on the market,” said Greene. “Each Maponics neighborhood has a distinct boundary line. This may seem like a minor distinction, but clear boundaries are critical for effective search and display.” Maponics Q309 Neighbourhood Boundaries release features boundary data for over 70,000 neighbourhoods in 2,800 cities in North America and Europe. Also included is the industry’s first Neighbourhood Classification Schema, which provides important neighbourhood zoning and social use information, and allows search sites and applications to selectively filter for neighbourhoods with profiles that best match searcher intentions.
