Tweets exceed people!

SOCIAL media news site Mashable is reporting that the number of Tweets last night exceeded the number of people on the planet!

The World Population Count currently has the global population at a little over 6.8 billion with Tweets now fractionally ahead of that figure.

According to Gigatweet, a twitter tracking tool the current count is 6,829,155,422. Given reports earlier this year that 40 per cent of Tweets are “pointless babble”, that makes 2.72 billion tweets of the “I’m just having a coffee” variety.
