Mobile marketing set to supersede internet

NEW research conducted by Borrell Associates, suggests that there are signs that mobile marketing will significantly outstrip the internet.

The research claims that mobile marketing will become bigger than web-based advertising in the coming years, on the basis that mobile devices 'go with people' unlike televisions, radios, newspapers or PCs.

Gordon Borrell, chief executive of the research outfit, said: “Your cellphone is probably in your pocket and if it buzzes you as you're walking into the store, because the GPS knows where you are, and gives you a mustard coupon, you're more likely to pick up that brand. There are tremendous opportunities here, so it's not hard to imagine that the marriage of advertising with mobile devices might actually outstrip all other media.”

Last week, Ism reported on a new survey from ABI Reseach that suggested that mobile marketing is becoming increasingly important across the world, with mobile marketing spend expected to rise sharply by 2015.
