118 118 to shed 300 jobs

UK-DIRECTORY Assistance business, 118118 has reported mixed that they are to shed up to 300 jobs at their Cardiff based contact centre.

However, the company which is run by The Number UK Limited – a subsidiary of KGB - added that each worker will be given the opportunity to retrain and work within other centres in Cardiff and Swansea, where the business operates customer care through its subsidiary Conduit in the two Welsh cities.

The company said it had no intention of making any compulsory redundancies. The company said in a statement: "It is expected 118 118 calls will be migrated to the company's other existing call centres. The company is therefore commencing a 90-day consultation with employees about the proposals, with many expected to take up the company's offer of retraining and redeployment in the new customer care vacancies that are being created in Cardiff and Swansea."

Meanwhile, it has been announced that 90 new positions are being created at the company’s Plymouth based contact centre as part of a 'significant expansion'. The Plymouth centre will become The Number UK Ltd’s largest call centre exclusively handling 118 118 calls.
