Google revenue increases by 24 per cent as Android search triplesSEARCH giant Google, has announced that its second quarter revenue increased by 24 per cent to $6.82 billion from the previous corresponding quarter. The results also showed that the Android mobile platform had grown significantly with the Android Apps market now holding 70,000 apps and searches on Android devices had grown by 300 per cent over the past 12 months. Google’s profits grew to $1.84 billion from $1.48 billion over the past 12 months, down from the $1.96 billion figure recorded during Q1. Net income also fell, with a 3 per cent drop in paid clicks and a 1 per cent fall in network revenue. The figures disappointed Wall Street and shares dropped 4.5 per cent after the announcement amid concerns over cost increases. The growth in the Android Market now sitting at 70,000 apps, dwarfing the 30,000 figure from April. Chief executive Eric Schmidt said: "We saw strength in every major product area, as more and more traditional brand advertisers embraced search advertising and as large advertisers increasingly ran integrated campaigns across search, display and mobile. We feel confident about our future, and plan to continue to invest aggressively in our core areas of strategic focus." Leave your comments: |
