Mobile marketing makes mobile-app market mushroom...NEW research published by Yankee Group suggests that U.S. app revenue alone will hit $1.6 billion in 2010 – news which will come as music to the ears of mobile marketing professionals. Yankee Group's estimates follow a significant rise in paid downloads in early 2010. Paid for apps accounted for 18 per cent of all downloads in 2009, but account for over 30 per cent so far in 2010. The iPhone's has proved to be an excellent medium for mobile marketing partly due to the success of Apple's App Store, proving that consumers will pay for branded apps. The mobile apps market is expected to triple in size this year, as an increasing number of location based services are launched. iPhone users download 60 apps a year on average, ranging in price from free to up to $15. Whilst the iPhone has been a game changer in the world of mobile and driven the popularity of apps, Yankee Group expects stern competition to emerge from Google's Android platform as the Android marketplace is expected to significantly increase the number of applications it offers from the current 30,000.
