Find your way with NokiaHazel RycroftNOKIA is set to give all its smart phone users free sat nav. The move, which is being seen to undercut the attempts of Apple and Google to dominate the market, will allow users to access to maps in 70 countries.Nokia spent £5.6bn on map firm Navteq in 2007, the service that will provide the maps - and are now offering the service free to users. The move is however likely to upset the current satellite navigation providers, most of whom charge their customers for the service. The move will also have ramifications outside the handset market, Tom Tom and other well known companies charge around £100 for in-car satellite navigation. The maps will allow people to share their location with friends on Facebook, adding pictures and status updates. A deal with Wcities will also enable users to access information about local attractions and events, within walking distance of their location. Leave your comments: |
