Apple sells two million iPads in two months

APPLE has sold two million iPads since launching the tablet computers two months ago. Over a million of the devices were sold in the United States in the first month. Rival companies, after realising the gap in the market, are scrambling to bring out alternative versions.

AsusTek is now releasing the Eee Pad, a 10-inch and 12-inch models of a tablet computer that runs on Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system. Acer also unveiled a 7-inch model last week.

“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive in a statement yesterday. “We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

Launched last week in the UK, the iPad is due to arrive in nine more countries later this year.
