Welcome to this week’s iSM newsletter! Our week has been dominated by mobile stories – none bigger than the revelation from Matt Brittin Google's UK Managing Director, who has said that Google’s engineers are told to think mobile first when developing new products and services. Brittan has predicted that by 2013 more internet access will involve mobile devices than desktop or laptop computers – proof indeed of the staggering growth of the mobile internet. This is compounded when you consider the findings of newly published research from Nielsen saying that “social” now takes up22 per cent of all time spent online each month. This percentage could rocket, as mobile devices increasingly become our primary means of internet access – especially as social media starts to move into the location sphere. No coincidence then that the iSM office has been abuzz with talk of location-based social media this week – which one are you using – Foursquare, Google Latitude or Gowalla?
